Rain makes activity time at the campground great as well.. Tye Dye was the craft of the day!
Grace!
And after the rain ended we tubed down the upper end... It was rougher than last year but we all survived.
We are resting after the class II rapid we just endured. And on this trip we had more trouble out of the calmer "rapid". Bucky flipped and I hit a rock and almost flipped, and Bucky saved a lady that came down and lost her tube and was literally tossed down the rocks.. it was rough. Kacey and Ashley kept a little one from floating down that was out by herself, her family was at a house on the banks for a reunion, I still haven't figured out why she was out there by herself to begin with. Grace did the lower with us but not the upper, she did it a few times last year but the water was just too high and fast this time.
So when we got back to the campsite, Bucky and the girls wanted to go one more time.... Greg and I were DONE! He was going to start the grill and I was just happy to be still. So they went to do it again. The Class II rapid is at the edge of the campground so we decided to walk up and watch them come down. Mistake number 1~
We get up there and there are people everywhere watching and when the people were flipping they would wade out to help. See the rain from earlier had made it's way down the mountain and it was really rough then. The guy from the campsite said it wasn't this way an hour ago... But it's bad now. Sure enough every 3 out of 4 people were flipping coming down... New prospective of trusting GOD. Greg was even a little uneasy when they were all going over, some come up smiling and some panic and end up getting beat up...
Not a great feeling, as a parent it was a lesson that I will not soon forget.
See if they come down on the left side it was smooth sailing, the right side was rough and sometimes flipped them but the middle flipped them every time. To have no control over the path my child was about to take and watch as you just have to trust they take the right one and remember what they are supposed to do and PRAY... What a spiritual lesson that is as well not just rafting, one decision that puts you on the wrong path can change your outcome, that is so true. The guy looked at me, and said just don't try to go out there let them float down to you...
So here comes Kacey, we got tickled when she said when she turned the bend and saw ALL these people it made her nervous and she said then I saw Grace and she was standing there eyes big and her hand over her mouth... she said I thought what is going on.
oblivious! All they knew was it hadn't been bad earlier... I was just thankful I had decided not to go again!
And she sees the 3 foot drop off.
and makes it... no problem..
Then Ashley...
And over she goes....
But she came right up and held on to her float until she could float down and get her feet planted. She had a scratched up back to show for it and was a little sore the next day but was okay..
Then Browe
See Greg below, yeah he was in up to his knees in case he needed to go in.
Scary, a lady had her baby on with her lost her float and was trying to keep the baby out of the water. I think I earned an ulcer from the experience.
Greg ended up taking one young man from a youth group to the rafting place, he flipped and scratched up his back pretty bad and had a knot with a puncture on his knee from a rock, he could barely walk and got off at our campsite and told his group, I will walk back if I have to I'm not getting back in...
